Suits Season 8 Episode 3 Review: Promises, Promises

There are perks to messing with the landlord after all.

Harvey waged war on Suits Season 8 Episode 3, and David Fox was firmly in his crosshairs.

It was just one of the exciting storylines on "Promises, Promises" which proved that there is still a lot to like about this USA Network legal drama.

Pulled Into a Dispute - Suits

Harvey has always been an honorable man, who likes to save people that are being wronged by a big corporation. The exciting thing about him going head-to-head with the landlord was that it was the type of case Mike would usually work.

Even without Mike, the show is still giving us some cases about ordinary people, and those are some of the series' finest. What David was doing to his employees was god awful.

Related: Suits Season 8 Episode 2 Review: Pecking Order

However, the case was more about educating audiences that things like this are happening in the world in this day and age.

Hannah had the title of Facility Manager. While you would think with "Manager" in the title she would be getting paid more, she was actually struggling to make ends meet and was being swindled out of overtime.

Annoyed - Suits Season 8 Episode 2

David was like a snake, trying to slither out of every situation in which he found himself.

Harvey has been hot-headed in the past, so he was poised to make a big blunder in the case.

The positive is that David only messed with the building and never tried to find a legal loophole to send Zane Specter Litt out of his building. I've grown attached to that building, and could not imagine our characters setting up shop elsewhere.

Sending Donna in to close the deal was the best thing Harvey could do. If you watch Suits online, you know that Donna has been one of the most resourceful characters since the series' inception.

Also, Donna was instrumental in brokering the deal to keep the firm in the building back on Suits Season 7. She knew what David was like and how she could manipulate him.

The only negative I can say about this storyline is that it means Harvey is going to have to help David with legal matters for the next year. I dare say Harvey's going to be angry about it, but he did give Donna the green light to do whatever she had to do.

Donna Wages War - Suits Season 8 Episode 3

I figured Donna was going to wind up on a date with David by the end of the hour, so I was ecstatic when she shut him down before he even got the chance to ask her out.

The increased focus on Katrina (Amanda Schull) during Suits Season 8 has been a pleasant surprise. She's long been one of the best characters, and she was given a lot to work with on "Promises, Promises."

It was ironic that the man she was trying to fire a few episodes before was the one who was pledging allegiance to her in her time of need. Migraines are awful, and I can't begin to imagine having one while having a meeting with a client.

Granted, Katrina could have sent Brian a text to let him know the situation before having him wade into water in which he could not swim.

While I'm glad we know he managed to win the case for the client, it was a little disheartening that his big win happened off-screen. It took a lot away from what was a robust storyline.

As for Katrina being a senior partner, I can get on board with that. She tries to do right by her clients and can make objective decisions without letting her heart get in the way.

Katrina's Pain - Suits Season 8 Episode 3

That's a solid trait to have, and one that will be crucial to Zane Specter Litt's success as it continues to navigate these unchartered waters.

Alex continuing to pursue Gavin was predictable, but he should have known to get the client was not going to be the end of his ordeal. Gavin is an opportunist who wanted to find out whether Alex was to be trusted.

The sad thing is that if Alex went to Samantha without the attitude, she might have helped him out with some information. There had to be a big reason why Robert was indifferent towards having Gavin back as a client.

Samantha Smiles - Suits Season 8 Episode 2

Having Samantha go up against Louis made for one of the most contrived scenes in the history of the series. I was firmly on Samantha's side when Louis told her to drop Delta airlines.

Samantha is not someone to be messed with. I've lost count of the number of times she's proven that through her first three episodes. Being upfront with Alex about her plan to become partner was her most genuine moment yet.

Alex is going to have his work cut out for him if he thinks he's going to get the upper hand in this war.

Did Harvey pick a battle with the wrong person?

That was revealed on Suits Season 8 Episode 3 when he went rogue against the landlord of the firm when a facility manager was being swindled out of her overtime pay.

Meanwhile, Alex and Samantha went to war over the position of named partner, but which one managed to discredit the other first?

Also, Katrina grew closer to Brian after a migraine almost derailed her entire case.

Suits Season 8 Episode 4 Review: Revenue Per Square Foot

Robert Zane needs to take a long hard look at the way he conducts business.

On Suits Season 8 Episode 4, the managing partner struggled to keep all of his employees in line, and I'm happy Donna was on hand to put him in his place.

While there's something to be said about the way everyone at the firm fails to follow orders, Donna's analysis about why the people from the previous firm turned on Robert was sound.

Robert and Zane - Suits

He's a by the books kind of man who likes to know that everyone is doing what is expected of them. There's nothing wrong with that, but acting cold towards everyone bit him in the butt.

The first four episodes of Suits Season 8 have had a lot of Wendell Pierce despite him being a recurring player. It makes me think something big is going to happen that makes Robert reevaluate his place at the firm.

Harvey: You're not leaving until I get an answer.
Louis: Get the hell off me.

Pierce is busy with Amazon's Jack Ryan, so it's almost as if the creative forces behind the show are trying to get as much of the actor as they can.

Hopefully, Donna's tactics will not be lost on Robert, and he'll start to show empathy when it's due. There's nothing worse than having a non-functioning team.

Louis was given a great storyline to work with on "Revenue Per Square Foot." Watching him getting mugged was one of the most shocking developments to happen on the series.

If you watch Suits online, you know that Louis has always struggled to open up about his feelings, so it made sense that he wanted to keep the mugging private.

Louis Is Lit - Suits Season 7 Episode 14

He was put in a life or death situation, so it was only a matter of time before it all came flooding back to him. I just didn't expect it to happen in the courtroom during a case he should have had the upper hand in all along.

Samantha: Louis, relax.
Louis: Dammit, you weren't there!

Samantha proved that she had a heart by turning to Harvey. She genuinely cared about Louis' wellbeing, and that was nice.

It was predictable that it was Harvey who got through to Louis, but we have to remember that Harvey was also suffering from PTSD not too long ago.

Related: Suits Spinoff Gets Series Order

They may be polar opposites, but there are times when they can help each other. I was surprised that Louis shut down. I figured he would have made a more elaborate excuse up for Robert to get off the hook.

Robert was harsh, but he softened up when he learned about the harrowing incident.

Helping a Friend - Suits Season 8 Episode 4

It's not uncommon to want your attacker to face the iron fist of justice, but what Robert said about the man one day having to face up to who he is resonated with Louis.

Louis is a tough man to reach and that comes down to his insecurities. He thinks that if someone is nice to him, they have an ulterior motive.

I was critical about his meeting with Samantha on Suits Season 8 Episode 3, but I'm intrigued to see how their friendship could play out.

Related: Suits Spinoff Gets Terrible Title

Maybe they will become as close as Mike and Harvey were. Who knows?

What we know for now is that Samantha has taken Louis under her wing to help him with self-defense, and that could come in handy down the line.

Donna Has a Plan - Suits Season 8 Episode 4

My only hope is that the criminal does not someday show up seeking legal advice. Leave that trope at bay, please.

I can't begin to express how over the battle for named partner I am. I mean, speaking about it for one episode is alright, but every single episode has centered on it to the point that I don't care whether Alex up and leaves the firm.

Harvey made a promise to him, but in the high-stakes world of law, things change. Hell, the firm's name changes every other day, so that's also something to consider.

It would be good to give Alex a storyline that does not involve him trying to get ahead. I respected his comments about not doing anything illegal when he accompanied Harvey on the case.

Still, give Dule Hill something better to do. He's been wasted on this show ever since his debut!

"Revenue Per Square Foot" was a mixed bag. There were some good moments, but also some questionable choices.

Suits Season 8 Episode 6 Review: Cats, Ballet, Harvey Specter

If there was ever an episode that focused too much on the stuff we didn't really care about, then Suits Season 8 Episode 6 was it.

The bulk of the hour focused on the fraught relationship between Louis and Harvey, and while it's fun to see them go at it, we didn't need all of this focus on the pair.

If you watch Suits online, you know that one of the highlights of the show is that the two characters are always so far apart, that it makes things more fun.

Samantha's Motives - Suits

Whether it's on a case, or differing views, or just the fact that they love to piss the other off, they make things more interesting.

Having all of this focus on what's wrong with the way they act towards each other was not needed. Nothing needed fixing, and it felt like a lazy attempt to fill an hour of this USA drama that's quickly becoming long in the tooth.

Can we all agree on how ridiculous it was to have to have Dr. Lipschitz allow Harvey and Louis to attend a session together?

Louis: Harvey, our relationship needs tending.
Harvey: Our what needs what?
Louis: We need to work on our relationship and we need help doing it.

Did we need this exposition-heavy scene to reveal there was something amiss with their friendship? No, and I much prefer when they focus on the right things.

Shake On It - Suits Season 8 Episode 5

The case with Harvey and the 16-year-old social media star was one of the most interesting in the series' history, but it was whittled down to a mere few scenes with no payoff in the end.

We live in a world in which anyone with access to the internet can be famous and have a lot of influence via social media. That teenager has 50 million followers and a whole lot of power.

It fascinated me that one woman's livelihood was at stake because the teen was claiming she got an allergic reaction to one of her products.

Harvey: Situations change, and you make adjustments.
Louis: This isn't a change of situation. This is you taking my client.

What irked me the most about the case was that it essentially said that there would be no other investigation into whether other people have reported the same reaction.

Annoyed - Suits Season 8 Episode 2

Are we to assume that by one girl telling her 50 million followers that she got the reaction that they would all follow suit?

It wouldn't be out of the question. The teenager was a mere petulant child who was under the impression that her influence would get her wherever she wanted to be.

Just say the first thoughts that come to mind.
[Harvey puts his head in his hands.]

Social media stars make a lot of money these days from endorsements. The Kardashians, of all people, make a lot of cash from saying they use a specific product and sharing it with their followers.

Knowing this peeled the paint off the wall of the story. Ten million dollars to that teenager would have felt like pocket money.

That said, I do want to see the storyline continue over the course of a few episodes. It would be silly to let it fall by the wayside, especially when it perfectly encapsulates how fame is defined these days.

Hi, Mom! - Suits Season 8 Episode 5

Louis making space in his schedule for sex with Sheila was needed, but there's a fine line between being professional and being unprofessional.

He's a partner at Zane Specter Litt -- or whatever it's called these days! -- and skipping a meeting with a long-time client is not the best way for clients to feel like the firm is capable of handling a case.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise because I can only imagine the expletives that would have been hurled towards the teenager by Louis if he were in the room.

I can't express how much I love Donna and Samantha working together. They were poised to be enemies because one is in Harvey's back pocket and the other is in Robert's.

Donna was skeptical of Samantha's motives when she joined the firm, and that's why we know she's so great at her job. Donna does not want the firm's reputation destroyed again, and for that reason, I sided with her when she worried about Samantha's involvement.

Samantha Is Not Impressed - Suits Season 8 Episode 6

It turns out, they are both very similar people, and by the end of "Cats, Ballet, Harvey Specter," they were working together to take down the head of the snake at the charity.

Peggy being ousted was a real shocker, but we shouldn't have expected Samantha to keep her word. That's just the way she is; she can't sit around while knowing something terrible is going on or that people are being taken advantage of, either.

That's what helped Donna realize that Samantha was a good person and that she was wrong to be judging her. Either way, more Donna/Samantha scenes would be much appreciated because they saved an otherwise mediocre hour.

As for Katrina, I'm surprised she didn't flip at Louis for moving the goal posts in her quest to become a partner. If we're to believe Suits Logic, we're to assume that the battle to be a partner at a law firm is filled with empty promises along the way.

Katrina Battles for Named Partner - Suits Season 8 Episode 6

Empty promises are the bane of life. This is not someone promising you some jalapenos with your nachos; this is someone promising the next stage in your career, pulling the rug from under you and putting you back to the starting point.

Katrina's relationship with Brian has been platonic until now, but even before Donna showed up as they had fun over the sauce, it was likely to cause problems.

Katrina grew paranoid about the way it was being perceived, and, to an extent, it seemed she liked Brian more than she was implying.

It was so easy for her to be comfortable around him, but I was glad she nipped it in the bud and sent him home to his wife and son.

Does Brian Like Katrina? - Suits Season 8 Episode 6

In the end, Katrina realized that she could be a friend to Brian and keep things platonic, and that's why she was happy to go to lunch with him. Watch this space; there's more to this relationship than meets the eye.

Suits Season 8 Episode 7 Review: Sour Grapes

If you've followed Suits since the beginning, then you know one thing is certain: Nothing for Louis ever goes the right way.

On Suits Season 8 Episode 7, Louis was happy to learn that he and Sheila were expecting a child, and while the lawyer got a bit ahead of himself, it was typical of Louis to act the way he did.

Having Louis and Sheila together again was surprising in the first place, especially when you consider that it's one step forward, and two back with Louis.

An Unpleasant Agreement - Suits

There was no emotional weight behind the pregnancy reveal so early into "Sour Grapes." It seemed like the type of news Sheila would want to share with her man over a nice dinner.

Then again, the pair has been battling the odds to conceive a child. I can get on board with her being so excited that she absolutely had to call him at work to let him know.

Related: Suits Season 8 Episode 6 Review: Cats, Ballet, Harvey Specter

It was predictable for Sheila to have her period, rendering the pregnancy null because this is Suits and Louis can never have something good for very long.

Sheila: Louis, we hit the jackpot.
Louis: You mean publisher's clearing house?
Sheila: I mean we don't need the sex phone anymore.
Louis: Oh, my god.
Sheila: You hit the bullseye.

The faux pregnancy served a bigger purpose: To help this couple chat about their myriad differences before they definitively have a bun in the oven.

Louis Is Mad - Suits Season 8 Episode 7

Coming from different religious backgrounds was likely going to present some issues when it came to parenting. Anyone who wants a kid has dreams about how they're going to raise them.

That goes without saying, but it's bizarre that Louis initially failed to take Sheila's feelings into consideration about whether their child would be raised as Jewish or Catholic.

Louis going ahead and assuming that he would be taking the wheel rubbed me the wrong way because Sheila was so on board with raising their child without religion.

That was a sacrifice Sheila made to keep unity in their marriage, and because she felt that was the fairest way to do things.

It is not something over which you just flip a coin and choose heads or tails. Turning to Esther was shocking because I had no idea Amy Acker was stopping by for an encore.

I'm Sorry! - Suits Season 8 Episode 2

If you watch Suits online, you know that Louis has battled to live a fulfilled life ever since the show kicked off. He's always worried that he's not worthy of happiness.

Upon learning that Sheila was expecting, he wanted to shout it from the rooftops and was likely counting down the moments until he could come clean to his parents.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

He wanted to be like, "Look, I can do things, you guys," and get their seal of approval. The religion debate put a dampener on that because if they're as serious as Esther seems to think they are, then they could cut Louis off for life.

While Louis realized the error of his ways before the episode was over, it was clear this served to help the couple iron out more differences, and that was a good idea.

Harvey: Let me guess, Samantha told you what I'm about to do.
Donna: Yeah, she did.
Harvey: Oh, so she keeps shit from me, but shares it with you.
Donna: Oh, don't make this about her, she does what she wants, just like you do.
Harvey: You're taking her side?
Donna: I'm taking my side because you may be done with this case, but she's going to keep working on it, because unlike you, she cares about my reputation.
Harvey: You think I don't care about you? You're in your position because I put you there.
Donna: No, Harvey, I'm in my position because I fucking earned it. Now, if you want to talk about things you did, you authorized me to negotiate this deal, and if you don't honor it, Fox is going to tell the world, and how is that gonna go the next time I try to come to an agreement with anyone?
Harvey: It'll go fine because he has no integrity. Nobody will believe him.
Donna: Okay, let me put this in words that you'll understand: I have integrity. You let him go, you're making me look a liar.
Harvey: You want to talk about a liar? He lied to my face.
Donna: And so have a thousand other clients. You were just waiting for an opportunity to let him go.
Harvey: Because we never should have taken him on in the first place.
Donna: Well, we did and like I said, you drop him, you're making me a liar, and I don't care if the rest of the world knows it or not: You'll know it, and I'll know it. You go ahead and do what you want, you always do anyway.

It was ridiculous that the pair kept a sex phone. That came out of the left field and felt like something thrown in there as a forced way to make viewers laugh.

Esther Returns! - Suits Season 8 Episode 7

Suits is at its best when the humor comes naturally, and it's been getting more and more convoluted of late.

The writers need to stop trying so hard and have faith that these characters are the same as they were a few years ago when the show was still fun.

Did anyone else find it dumb that Donna never told Harvey about how she managed to resolve the war with David Fox?

All that little fabrication did was drive a short-term wedge between the two, and again, it felt forced. Her reasons behind it didn't sit well with me.

She wanted to smile when Harvey realized the truth? What the heck is that supposed to mean? It would make a casual viewer of the series think they're against each other.

These two would never double-cross each other, so let's just cut the B.S and get back to what makes this show good.

Calling In a Favor - Suits Season 8 Episode 5

The only positive from this storyline was Donna's outburst about how she earned her COO position. On paper, she does not have the experience for that role.

However, when you think about everything she's done for the benefit of the firm, it makes sense. I shudder to think what would have happened if she wasn't there to right the ship when it needed it.

Related: Mr. Robot Renewed for Season 3!

It was about time Harvey, and Samantha put their petty little feud aside. Samantha has now proven multiple times that she's there for the benefit of the firm and that she would not do anything to hurt it.

These shouting matches between coworkers are unprofessional, unrealistic and plain boring.

Working Together! - Suits Season 8 Episode 7

"Sour Grapes" was a weak hour of this legal drama. Just when things start getting interesting, the soapy elements come out to play, and it all gets too much to take seriously.

Suits Season 8 Episode 8 Review: Coral Gables

After a string of mediocre installments, Suits Season 8 Episode 8 was a return to form.

It's difficult for a show to throw in new hurdles for the characters after eight seasons, but Louis' storyline got a much-needed jolt of life.

If you watch Suits online, you know we've witnessed his struggles as a teenager and an adult since the show kicked off all those years ago.

Settling An Old Score - Suits

He's always in an ambivalent state of mind, but he oozed confidence when he and Sheila showed up at the appointment.

In true Suits fashion, it was one step forward, and two back for Louis when he realized the person helping him and Sheila get pregnant was the man who made his high school years a living hell.

The moment Chaz apologized about any bad blood, it was apparent we were going to watch Louis confront his emotions about what went down.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

While I'm always one for giving people second chances, Chaz didn't really deserve one. Louis was at a stage in which he was terrified about of being late for school because he knew that kid would act out.

Louis was put in an unimaginable situation because Chaz could be the one who gives the advice to bring Louis' kid into the world.

Louis Has a Plan - Suits Season 8 Episode 8

That's big, and I'm glad Lipschitz was able to help Louis come to terms with what happened all those years ago.

Louis is impulsive and has been known to speak his mind, so the fact that he managed to keep his cool at the close of the episode proved that he could progress.

He and Sheila would make great parents, so my one hope is that they have a child by the end of the season.

If there were ever a character who deserved a meaty story, it's Gretchen, and she brought her A-game during "Coral Gables."

She's always been the person who gets things done and knows how to dole out some home truths when the opportunity presents itself.

The beginning of the search for the missing document was fascinating because I assumed Alex was being played and that the competitors had intercepted the parcel company.

Alex Is Not Impressed - Suits Season 8 Episode 8

What was most interesting about this storyline was that Gretchen owned up to her error, yet still wanted to find a way to put it right.

Turning to the receptionist who allegedly owed her a favor was a bold move, but there was no way it was going to be resolved as quickly as that.

Related: The Purge Season 1 Episode 1 Review: What Is America?

Alex's rage was understandable. The deal was huge, and by not physically handing the file to the courier, Gretchen cost him the entire deal.

The client also felt wronged and rightfully so. This a law firm that's supposed to cover its bases, so blaming a secretary for messing up something doesn't look good.

Can I Be Named Partner? - Suits Season 8 Episode 5

Gretchen's decision to give up in the closing scenes was a tough one. She made a promise to herself to give up when she ran out of ways to save her skin.

It could have been a clever plot to write out Gretchen, but I'm thankful Donna was on hand to give her the pep talk. There's nothing worse than feeling like you're terrible at your job.

Gretchen: Are you saying you're going to give me a raise?
Donna: No. You just lost this firm a huge client.
[They laugh]

Everyone makes mistakes. It will surely be a learning experience for Gretchen to make sure that she physically hands over items to the courier in future.

Samantha's New Agenda - Suits Season 8 Episode 8

The stakes may have been high for Louis and Gretchen, but they were even higher for Samantha.

The moment she went after Eric, I knew it was all going to end in tears. She left his law firm with half of the clients, so pushback was always a possibility.

Related: Mr. Robot to End With Season 4!

There were far too many new developments in this case throughout the hour to believe, but we got to see a new side of Samantha.

When she learned the true extent of Betty's hatred towards her, she wanted to go all the way to Florida to sort it.

Burying evidence is a big no-no in the world of law, and that's why Samantha should have refrained from it in the first place.

Samantha Smiles - Suits Season 8 Episode 2

However, she had all the information she needed to make an informed decision that the person she was helping was innocent.

The case brought her closer to Harvey, and that's a big positive.

Eric: Samantha Wheeler. Normally I'm happy to see a former colleague. Just, not one that walked out the door with half our business.
Samantha: Then you're really going to hate it when I attack what little business you have left.

They are more alike than they will ever admit. Maybe that's why the scenes between them feel energetic and bring a lot to the table.

This hour was not perfect by any means, but it was a marked improvement over recent episodes.

What are your thoughts on all of the characters being pushed to the limit?

Did Samantha get some sweet revenge?

That was her plan on Suits Season 8 Episode 8 when an old foe showed up with the intent of destroying her.

However, Samantha found herself with an unlikely ally as she attempted to get the upper hand.

Meanwhile, Louis faced yet another hurdle in his path to fatherhood, but this one seemingly put him in a dire situation.

Was Sheila on hand to help, or was she too cut up about their loss to take it on board?

Suits Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Motion to Delay

The firm was under attack, the antagonists of the hour were coming after them, and it was goddamn bullshit.

In other words, Suits Season 8 Episode 9 was a standard installment of Suits.

All snark aside, the heart of Suits is the interesting bonds and dynamics, particularly those between the mentor/mentees.

An Old Enemy - Suits

Did the nostalgia kick in a bit for you when Katrina sought ought Harvey for advice and received some from Louis?

Harvey is great at mentoring, and with Mike gone, it's nice to see him tap into that a bit with Katrina.

Katrina is attempting to have a protege of her own with Brian, but it's not the same. She is playing with fire.

Their friendship is amazing. They make excellent partners, so it's no surprise that her first order of business after making Senior Partner was to make him her associate.

Katrina: I just made Senior Partner.
Brian: So, it's official?
Katrina: It's official. And as my first act: Brian Simon Altman, will you be my associate?
Brian: Katrina, I'm honored, but before I answer, are you sure the two of us working so closely together is a good idea?
Katrina: What?
Brian: I mean, we've become good friends, so it might get complicated if I officially work for you.

In that sense, they have some of the elements that made Harvey and Mike a fantastic duo, or Jessica and Harvey. The way they took down that clothing designer who ripped off her friend was the best.

I love that Brian got creative and expanded his search for legal precedence into adjacent areas. It's a pity Katrina didn't think of doing that herself. It seemed like common sense, but Katrina tends to be linear in her thinking.

Brian's out of the box thinking is why the pair of them work so well together. The problem is their insane sexual tension that can be cut with a knife.

Every interaction between them feels like they're on the brink of risking it all and making out or more. It's unsettling, and while it's not entirely on Katrina, it's mostly on her. Her feelings for Brian cannot be more apparent.

Katrina's Pain - Suits Season 8 Episode 3

Brian is harder to place because sometimes he comes across well-meaning and platonic, but then he comments on his wife's inability to understand his love of Law the way that Katrina does. There are moments when he seems aware of whatever this thing is between them.

Katrina needs Brian's investment and devotion. Brian called her on her crap in a professional capacity, but he also elevates her in her personal life too. It sucks that their friendship is muddled by everything else.

But all relationships are complicated, as evidenced by Robert's mixed feelings when the latest attack against the firm was put to rest.

Tommy was a spiteful man who fought them to his death. The others, for the life of them, couldn't figure out why he was willing to destroy himself in his quest.

The wheels of Justice turn slowly, Tommy. Which means even if you win, you won't be here to see it.

Harvey

He was hungry for his firm, and therefore, hungry for vengeance. It's sad when you think about it. He could have spent the time he had left with loved ones. Instead, he wanted to defeat Robert and the entire firm even though he was in the wrong.

The firm is always hanging on by a thread and nearly everyone in it has done something that could cost them their license. The gang scrambling to resolve the issue and fighting along the way was no surprise.

In fact, Donna had the quote of the night when she demanded Harvey and Zane stop fighting each other long enough to fight their common enemy. That summed the entire series up in a nutshell.

Donna: Before you two go any further, Bratton wasn't bluffing. He just sent over a trial date; it's a week from today.
Harvey: Shit.
Donna: Exactly. So you two need to stop fighting each other because now we have to fight him.

They never learn their lesson, though. It was risky as heck for Donna to approach Denise Gallo. Who knew Gallo would still be coming up like this?

Samantha and Alex are exasperating. They're like two unruly kids who can't be tamed. Their fighting is childish and annoying. It was old 10 seconds after it started.

Samantha is incapable of playing well with others. Every time it appears as though she might be settling in and making friends, she leverages them and screws it up. She can't help herself, which is a shame. When she's likable, she's really likable, but when she isn't ...

Having a Seat - Suits Season 8 Episode 1

She knew calling in her favor from Louis in that manner was out of line. That was about her own interest and incessant need to win over the firm's interest coming through.

Samantha claims she's a great person to have in your corner because she looks out for people, and she does in her own way. What good is it if everything comes with a price? She makes it difficult to be her friend because no can let their guard down with her.

Meanwhile, Alex flat out behaves like a child. Samantha is right about Gavin, and Alex knows it. Hell, he's willing to drop Gavin like the bad habit if he gets named partner.

When Samantha and Alex abandoned their mediation for pettiness, it was too damn much.

If you want my money, Samantha, come and take it because I'm not signing any deals with anyone.

Gavin

Their constant bickering isn't doing either of them any favors; they're insufferable together. Hopefully, Harvey letting them duke it out once and for all will put an end to it.

Did anyone else cringe when Samantha brought up feminism? Samantha doesn't have an issue stepping on anyone to get what she wants. She spouted that off as a tactic to garner favor with Donna.

Donna was right, it's not about Samantha getting the "wait your turn, sweetheart" from the guys. Alex was promised the position first and did some work before demanding it. Nothing less and nothing more.

Are you tired of the Samantha and Alex fighting, or are you amped up for their showdown? How long before Katrina and Brian cross a line?

Will Zane reevaluate the dogged pursuit of his ambitions after dodging another bulled and the sudden death of his adversary?

Who returns to destroy the firm?

That was the huge question on Suits Season 8 Episode 9 when the firm was shocked by the arrival because it could spell the end of the line for the firm as everyone knows it.

With tensions rising, and clients wanting to know the truth, Alex and Samantha tried to work together to broker some peace.

Also, Donna had a shocking bit of information for Harvey following yet another blowout.

19 TV Duos That Should Become Trios

$

There are some wonderful duos on TV and their chemistry stands out really well for the audience. But sometimes they are connected by another person, and adding them into the mix would create a possible iconic trio in the process.

This is the best case scenario for love triangles where all the people involved are somehow connected to each other, and it removes this idea that there needs to be a choice. Someone is always stuck in the middle when honestly they don't have to be.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video

Here is a slideshow of a few examples of exactly that, specifically both platonic and romantic relationships that would only benefit more with the addition of another epic person.

1. Nancy + Steve + Jonathan - Stranger Things

Nancy slash steve slash jonathan stranger things
Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan utilized Stranger Things Season 1 to make a real argument for why love triangles don't have to exist, not when the people in them all care for each other. Steve's character development may have helped his relationship with Nancy, but it didn't stop there, with Steve also making an effort to replace what he ruined in Jonathan's life. So the next step is obviously them realizing that they work best all together, rather than trying to divide into one couple and a third wheel.

2. Bellamy + Zeke + Raven - The 100

Bellamy slash zeke slash raven the 100
Consider this wishful thinking because, with the way The 100 Season 5 should have ended, it just opened that door for some high-quality Zeke and Bellamy interactions. Zeke is becoming a part of Raven's life, starting with the people closest to her. So why not throw out the idea of Bellamy/Zeke/Raven out into the open? If we are waiting until the last possible moment to explore Bellamy and Clarke then why not allow Bellamy's romantic life to actually be given the attention it deserves?

3. Ryn + Ben + Maddie - Siren

Ryn slash ben slash maddie siren
This explanation just writes itself, especially with how obvious Siren is being about Ryn wanting the comfort that comes from both Ben and Maddie. Ben and Maddie may have their own thing going on, but with Ryn's appearance, it is obvious that the mermaid isn't a way to divide them, instead she is an addition to their relationship.

4. Monty + Harper + Bellamy - The 100

Monty slash harper slash bellamy the 100
This still hurts, like a lot. When there was still talk of plot twist time jump couples in space before Season 5, Bellamy and Harper were the underrated option that would have been interesting to explore. But why leave Monty out? Imagine Bellamy joining Monty and Harper, and the trio being pure and kind and worried about their family together.

5. Angel + Buffy + Spike - Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Angel slash buffy slash spike buffy the vampire slayer
Chemistry is vital for any relationship, so if you have so much of it between three people in a love triangle the only logical next step is an attempt at an epic trio. There was so much talk over who Buffy should choose, Angel or Spike, when the obvious answer was there all along.

6. Betty + Veronica + Archie - Riverdale

Betty slash veronica slash archie riverdale
The aesthetic appeal is too good to deny here and you know it!

It's Time to Give Prison Storylines a Life Sentence

What is with the current obsession with prison storylines on TV?

Within the last couple of years, it has been blown entirely out of proportion. Shows across all genres from drama to comedy to procedural jumped on the bandwagon and attempted to offer a new take, but regardless of the "spin" they tried to put on it, it just felt repetitive.

It all started with HBO's The Night Of which was an incredible miniseries completely deserving of all the awards and acclaim it received. The problem is with all of the shows that came after that tried to replicate its success.

Protecting His Cellmates - The Flash

Criminal Minds Season 12 spent half the season on Reid's time in prison after being framed for murder. Jake and Rosa also went to jail for a crime they didn't commit on Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 5 Episode 1. The Flash framed Barry for murder as well, and Suits sent Mike to prison for an arc, though at least in his case he was actually guilty.

The major problem with all of these plotlines was that in each case, the viewer knew the outcome from the very beginning.

Related: Get HBO via Prime Video Channels for Addictive Dramas, Hilarious Comedies, & Hit Movies!

Maybe we didn't know exactly how they would get out, but we knew all of them would eventually.

Let's be realistic; no Flash fan was ever going to believe that Barry would rot in prison. Somehow, he and his friends would find a way to clear his name.

The Brooklyn Nine-Nine crew wouldn't rest until they did the same for their locked-up team members. Emily Prentiss put her career (and her freedom) on the line to ensure Reid wouldn't be found guilty of a crime he did not commit.

Legal Advice - The Night Of

Part of what made The Night Of so successful was the fact that it was a limited series. Viewers were enthralled in each installment by the superb writing and acting, but it also helped significantly that we had no idea whether Naz would be found guilty or not.

The possibility that Naz could spend the rest of his life in prison was very real, and that just was not the case for any of these other characters.

The Night Of was so compelling because we weren't sure of the outcome.

That's the beauty of a miniseries. Anything can happen, and our preconceived notion that good guy always wins doesn't necessarily apply.

Now with so many shows jumping on the prison storyline bandwagon, it's becoming tired and dull. Criminal Minds dragged it out the longest, and while it did give Matthew Gray Gubler a chance to showcase his talent, we all knew how it would eventually end.

This Is My New Home - Suits Season 6 Episode 1

Suits sending Mike to prison was a little bit different. He wasn't framed or wrongfully accused; he was guilty and deserved his sentence. To be honest, that almost made it worse.

In his case, viewers still knew Mike would somehow find a loophole or make a deal to get out early. There was just no way one of the main characters would serve his full sentence without a time jump. In much the same way that the other characters' friends and co-workers fought to save them, Harvey did the same for Mike.

Knowing Mike would most likely cut a deal and receive a "get out of jail free" card made having to endure those installments a little infuriating. He deserved to be there!

This is not to say that all of these prison arcs had no value. They all had their moments, but the trend itself is becoming so overdone that it is becoming groan-worthy.

The Night Of was so influential because the ending stuck with the viewer. The characters were irrevocably changed, and the experience had a lasting effect on them. It also made a point to expose the problems in our criminal justice system. It tackled an vital issue head-on, rather than merely using prison as a plot device.

Thankfully the series did not get a second season, because in all honesty it probably would have ruined it.

A Welcome Visitor - Criminal Minds Season 12 Episode 16

In these other shows, can we honestly say the experience severely impacted the characters? Criminal Minds probably did the best with this, as they didn't just ignore the effect the experience had on Reid or the ramifications it had on the team, but even they laughably wrapped it all up in a bow on Criminal MInds Season 13 Episode 16

In the end, nobody lost jobs despite the extreme measures that were taken to ensure Reid's freedom.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The Flash have pretty much forgotten it ever happened. There wasn't much point to those storylines other than to find a convenient way to split the teams up for a period of time.

I don't watch Arrow, but I attended the panel at Comic-Con where they debuted the trailer for Arrow Season 7. Lo and behold, Oliver was in prison! That means two series within the same universe are pulling this stunt within one year of each other!

Related: Arrowverse Crossover: Elizabeth Tulloch Cast as Lois Lane!

I don't know the parameters of Oliver being in jail, but I assume that he was either caught or turned himself in as a vigilante. What I do know without even needing to watch is that chances are he won't be there for long.

Somehow, someway, he'll get out, because watching the hero deal with prison life and being surrounded by those he put there can only be interesting for so long. A vigilante putting criminals in jail and then joining them is not much different than a cop or lawyer doing it, and we've seen more than our fair share of that recently.

Moving On - Arrow

After some research, it appears Riverdale Season 3 is going in a similar direction. Again, I don't watch it, but fans will be treated to Archie awaiting trial for murder, and it looks like he's being framed too.

So, what do you guys think? Is it time for TV to put an end to this trope? Arrow and Riverdale fans out there, are you looking forward to Oliver and Archie's stints in prison, or are you tired of seeing this done over and over again? Did any other recent shows pull this stunt that I missed?

If you disagree and love prison storylines, feel free to let us know in the comments!

Suits Season 8 Episode 10 Review: Managing Partner

$

The long-gestating battle between Alex and Samantha to be named partner at the firm thankfully concluded on Suits Season 8 Episode 10, and it was about time.

The clashing from within the firm has dumbed down this series to the point that I don't even look forward to it anymore.

Robert and Harvey - Suits

When things took a turn for the better on Suits Season 8 Episode 9, what with old foes coming for the firm guns blazing, I figured the show would fall back on to the mediocrity train.

However, I was shocked -- shocked that the battle came to an end, and shocked that I was happy with the result and happy about where things stand in the hierarchy of the firm right about now.

I was floored when we learned that Samantha cornered Robert all those years ago about the surprise $100k payment.

Related: Suits Season 8 Episode 9 Review: Motion To Delay

In that one scene, it was as if Robert's integrity was being hurled out the window, never to be found again. But my heart sank when he brought up Rachel, and the reason for remaining quiet about the money laundering made sense.

Robert: Are you threatening me?
Harvey: You are done leading this firm.

If he lost his job at that time, there's a chance Rachel wouldn't have gotten to have the teenage life she had. The good thing about Samantha, and perhaps what allowed her to bond with Robert, was that she is never one sugar coat anything.

Samantha Wants to Be Partner - Suits Season 8 Episode 10

She's not one to throw in the towel, and that's why I liked when she persisted to take down Gavin until he got one up on her.

The moment Gavin used the "I have a family. Please, give me a day to sort this" schtick, it was obvious he was going to turn to Alex with something that would bury her.

What I liked about this was that it showed Alex could have taken her down, but he knew there was no sense in doing that.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

It was surprising that Alex wound up winning, but Samantha was being torn down for much of "Managing Partner" to the point she opted to basically tell Robert he was making her named partner because he owed it to her because of what happened all those years ago.

My name's going up on that wall, and you're going to make it happen.

Samantha

It was low move, but we have to remember here that Samantha could have probably got her name up above the door when she helped Robert take down the partners responsible in the old firm.

Samantha's New Agenda - Suits Season 8 Episode 8

At that time, Samantha admitted to the man from the FBI that it wasn't her time, presumably that she hadn't done enough in her career development to get there at that time.

In the end, I'm glad both Samantha and Alex got to become named partners, and Samantha telling Alex that he won and that he should pick the order of the names was nice.

Deep down, Samantha knew Alex won fair and square and that she's lucky to have her name up there after everything that went down. They accepted the mission set out for them.

Related: Suits Spinoff Gets Terrible Title

Going forward, all of the interoffice bickerings needs to stop. Most episodes of late consist of everyone shouting at each other before resolving their differences in the final few scenes with an addictive song in the background.

I never thought I'd say it, but Louis is the only person capable of bringing the firm back into the light. Robert and Harvey fighting every step of the way is not professional, and it's not doing much for the morale around the office.

You wanted a fight? You got it. Winner gets their name up there first.

Robert

Donna showing up to tell Louis what he needed to do seemed a bit out there, but it all made sense. When Louis decides on something, he tries his best to stick to it.

That said, I was prepared for Louis to step aside after learning about Sheila's pregnancy and her decision to become the Dean of a law school.

Louis Gets News - Suits Season 8 Episode 10

It was typical of Louis to want Sheila away from work to look after their child, but that wasn't precisely what Sheila had planned.

If anything, these two need to make a list of everything they need to sort out and have at it because their child is coming, and they're going to be very unprepared if they continue arguing over everything.

The moment Louis admitted that stepping up to managing partner was easy when he realized he had to father a child was beautiful.

Suits Season 8 has been filled with questionable choices, but there was something about "Managing Partner" that elevated the episode above any others this season.

Maybe it's the knowledge that there will be some new leadership as we enter the back half of the season.

What are your thoughts on the episode? Will Louis be the person that rights the sinking ship?

In case you're wondering, we used a precise methodology to count down these super-jews.

A pretty face and a banging body are equally delicious, but scoring a spot on this epic lineup requires true talent. Bonus points for a spectacular sense of humor and strong influence on popular culture. Amen!

47. Max Greenfield

Max greenfield
As the breakout star of “New Girl," Max played Schmidt, one of three guys who share a Los Angeles loft with Jess (Zooey Deschanel). Greenfield falls hard for Jessica's BFF, the way-out-of his league fashion model, CeCe and their on again off again romance kept our attention for all seven seasons. Spoiler alert: by the end of the series, Greenfield not only gets the girl -- he puts a ring on it -- and later puts a baby in her too.

46. Noah Wyle

Noah wyle
We haven’t stopped crushing on Wyle since he played Dr. John Carter on the TV medical TV drama, "ER.” As far as this list goes, the doctor is IN!

45. Paul Rudd

Paul rudd
Our hearts beat a bit faster when Paul Rudd made an honest woman out of Phoebe Buffay as Mike Hannigan on "Friends." Rudd recently starred in "Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later,” on Netflix and made it official: No matter how many years go by, Paul still gets us hot (and wet)!

44. Bryan Greenberg

Bryan greenberg
Bryan’s swagger on HBO’s “How to Make It in America,” as Ben Epstein, an enterprising twenty-something hustling his way through New NYC's fashion scene, made us Greenberg's fans forever.

43. Mark Feuerstein

Mark feuerstein
Mark got his big break on the daytime soap, “Loving," played a lawyer on "The West Wing," and an eligible Jewish doctor who was perfect husband material. Though we favored Feuerstein on “Sex and the City,” as a vulnerable romantic who means well, but just can’t find Miranda's cherry.

42. Justin Kirk

Justin kirk
Justin appears on the Jim Carey series," Kidding," but is best known for his role on HBO’s “Weeds.” As Andy Botwin, Kirk played part-stoner, part -family man who's 100% into his sister-in-law, Nancy (Mary Louise Parker), while helping her sell marijuana. At the end of the series, Andy rejects MLP’s plea to be a permanent fixture in her life -- allowing Kirk to go out on a real high.

The upcoming Suits spinoff fronted by Gina Torres has added some new series regulars to its cast.

According to Deadline, One Tree Hill favorite, Bethany Joy Lenz has signed up to replace Rebecca Rittenhouse in a recasting.

Rittenhouse played Keri Allen on an episode of Suits Season 7, and the character butted heads with Torres' Jessica Pearson.

B JOY Lenz

There's no word yet on why the recasting occurred, but it's not uncommon for shows to recast so early into the process.

Also on board for the Chicago-set offshoot is Chantel Riley (Wynonna Earp), Isabel Arraiza (The Oath), and Eli Goree (Riverdale).

They join a cast that already includes Simon Kassianides and Morgan Spector.

Riley will take on the role of Angela Cook, a nursing assistant, and cousin of Jessica.

Arraiza will play Yoli Castillo, described as "Jessica’s passionate assistant who will learn from the best how to most effectively channel her intensity. "

Finally, Gore will play Derrick Mayes, the press secretary of Bobby.

Gina Torres Promotes The Catch

USA Network placed a series order for the spinoff in March.

“Gina’s portrayal of Jessica Pearson as one of television’s strongest, most successful businesswomen has made a huge impact with fans,” said Chris McCumber, president, entertainment networks, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment, adding:

“We can’t wait to explore this next chapter in the ‘Suits’ legacy – and a brand new world for Jessica.”

"I am sincerely grateful to USA and UCP for giving Dan Arkin, my producing partners at Hypnotic and me the opportunity to continue Jessica Pearson’s journey in this new series that will encapsulate all that our fans love about her and Suits — but with its own distinct story that will be unique to the franchise.”
